Air Fryer Christmas Cookies Recipe

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, and salt.

Cream Butter and Sugar: Using an electric mixer, cream the softened butter and powdered sugar together until light and fluffy.

Add Wet Ingredients: Mix in the vanilla extract, then add the egg yolk to the sugar mixture and combine well.

Incorporate Dry Ingredients: Gradually sift in the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Scrape down the sides of the bowl and mix once more.

Divide and Color Dough: Roll the dough into a large rectangle and divide it into three sections. Color two smaller sections with red and green food coloring, respectively. Cover each dough section with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1-2 hours.

Roll and Decorate Dough: Roll the large uncolored dough to ¼ inches thick and transfer it to a piece of parchment paper. Roll the colored dough to ⅛ inches thick, pinch off small balls, and place them onto the uncolored dough. Lightly roll the dough to press the colored balls into it. Chill the dough for an additional 20-30 minutes.

Cut and Air Fry: Preheat your air fryer to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Using a fluted cookie cutter, cut out the cookies and place them in a single layer in the air fryer basket lined with parchment paper. Air fry for 7-8 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.

Cool and Enjoy: Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely before enjoying. Leaving on a cooling rack gives crunchy and chewy cookies.

How to Store Leftover holiday cookies

Store leftover cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. For longer storage, freeze them in a freezer-safe container.

Cooking Methods Apart from the Air Fryer

There are several other cooking methods for Christmas cookie recipes, but since having an air fryer, this has been my go-to, especially when I am not making cookies in large quantities.

  • Oven: Preheat the the regular oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Place the cookies on a lined baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are golden brown.
  • Stove Top: It is not recommended for cookies as it doesn’t even provide baking.

The air fryer is a better option as it cooks cookies faster and more evenly without heating up the whole kitchen.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve with a glass of milk for a classic pairing.
