PRO TIPS for the Best Buttercream Christmas Board

  • Room Temperature Butter: Ensures a smooth and creamy texture for the buttercream, which makes piping easier and gives a polished finish.
  • Gradual Powdered Sugar Addition: Adding powdered sugar in stages helps prevent clumping and ensures a velvety buttercream consistency.
  • Chill Your Board: Pop the board into the fridge for 10 minutes after piping to firm up the buttercream for easier dipping.

Ingredients for Christmas charcuterie board

  • Unsalted Butter: Provides a creamy, rich base for the buttercream.
  • Powdered Sugar: Adds sweetness and helps thicken the frosting.
  • Heavy Cream: Adds smoothness and a slightly lighter texture to the buttercream.
  • Vanilla Extract: Brings warmth and depth to the flavor.
  • Salt: Balances sweetness and enhances the vanilla.
  • Green and Red Food Coloring: Adds a festive look to the board, making it a holiday-ready centerpiece.
  • Sprinkles (optional): Adds a fun, decorative touch to make the board extra festive!

How to make Christmas buttercream charcuterie board

Add the butter to the bowl of an electric stand mixer with a paddle attachment and mix on medium speed for 2 minutes.

Slowly add in the powdered sugar half a cup at a time.

Pause to scrape the bowl, add the heavy cream, salt and vanilla.

Mix again on medium speed for an additional 2 minutes until the frosting is light and smooth.

Remove about ⅓ cup of frosting and put in a small bowl. Add in the desired amount of red food coloring. Mix and place in a piping bag.

Add green food coloring into the larger bowl, mix to combine and transfer to a piping bag.

To assemble the tree, start with the bottom layer. Pipe 7 – 8 circles onto the board about ½ inch apart. Use the backside of a spoon to press into each circle and pull toward you. Repeat for all circles.

Repeat that process for all layers, subtracting 1 circle for each layer until you reach the top.

Add decorations on the tree with the red and remaining green frosting. Add sprinkles if desired.

Serve with your favorite butter cookies, sugar cookies, graham crackers, pretzels, etc and enjoy!

How to Store Leftovers from Your Board

To store, cover the buttercream board with plastic wrap or transfer to an airtight container. Keep refrigerated for up to 3 days. Allow the board to sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes before serving again.

Serving Ideas

Pair this buttercream board with a variety of dippable treats like sugar cookies, shortbread, graham crackers, or pretzels. It’s also fun to add fresh fruits like strawberries for a refreshing contrast to the rich buttercream. This board is a perfect addition to any dessert table or snack bar!
