How to make pork shoulder in air fryer

  • Preparation: In a bowl, combine salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and thyme. Blend the pepper mixture.
  • Rub: Drizzle olive oil over the pork roast. Apply 3/4 of the spice mix generously, ensuring all sides are well-coated. Apply half of the pepper mixture, keeping the remaining for later.
  • Marinate: Cover for a minimum of 30 minutes to 1 hour. I kept mine in the fridge overnight for maximum flavor.
  • Preheat: Preheat your air fryer to 360°F / 180°C.
  • Cook: Place the pork roast in the air fryer basket. Cook for 25 minutes per Ibs of pork. Turn, and cook again halfway through. Rub the pork with the remaining spices and pepper mixture with a brush. Cook for 5 more minutes.
  • Check: Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. Aim for 145°F (63°C) for medium rare. My Ninja Air fryer comes with an internal thermometer. You can get a suitable thermometer if yours does not come with one.
  • Rest: Let it rest for 5 – 10 minutes; you can cover your pork with foil before slicing. I prefer taking my pork out of the air fryer while I allow it to rest. This prevents your pork shoulder from overcooking or becoming too dry!
  • Serve with your favorite side dish and enjoy your juicy Air Fryer Roast Pork!

FAQs about Air Fryer Roast Pork

Can I use a different cut of pork?

You can use pork loin or pork shoulder, but cooking times may vary. Always use a meat thermometer to ensure it’s cooked through.

Can I marinate the pork before air frying?

Absolutely! A marinade can add more flavor. If you marinate, ensure the pork isn’t too wet when placing it in the air fryer.

How do I store leftovers?

Store any leftover pork roast in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer for a few minutes at 320°F (160°C) for best results.

Why is my pork roast dry?

Overcooking can cause the pork to dry out. Monitoring the internal temperature and avoiding cooking it beyond the recommended temperature is crucial. You should air fry and aim for a minimum of 25 minutes per lb of pork). Remember to flip the sides halfway through. I did flip mine on the 4 sides to ensure it was thoroughly cooked.

Another reason for having dry pork is leaving it inside the air fryer while allowing the last 5 – 20 minutes of rest. Take your pork out, cover it with foil, and let it rest.

Can I add other spices or herbs to the rub?

Definitely! Feel free to customize the rub with herbs like rosemary, thyme, or spices like cumin, based on your preference.
